Death and Life Baptism (Romans 6:1-14)

Baptized into His Death raised to new life

The perfect tense was so fascinating to learn about in Greek. A completed action with ongoing significance, and as Webster says, “often focusing attention on the resulting state rather than on the occurrence itself.” – In the Gospel, Jesus death is like this. In our passage Paul links Jesus death to us through baptism. If we miss this ongoing aspect of Baptism we forfeit so much of the privilege that God graciously gives us for living – indeed we reverse Galatians 2:20 we are invited to see in Romans 6 that baptism is an ongoing resource of the Gospel in our lives!
