In this chapter, like the first sin in the Garden, there is more than a happening upon forbidden fruit, but a chain of connected follies leading to colossal ruin and death. And what the Spirit shows us through this domino text is our need for being employed in the LORD’S work where we are guaranteed no effort will be vain. This passage is crucial for us today and for all Christians, because it properly depicts the struggle between flesh and Spirit, and presents even David as an employee of Satan. You see we need to fully accept that NO man can serve 2 masters – If we are NOT employed for the LORD we WILL be employed for an evil lord. This is why Christ at the forefront is the only cure for sin!
