Nothing can stop God from perfecting and protecting us. As John describes Satan’s power we certainly see how God is always protecting His children even when the gates of Hell are unleashed – they cannot prevail against us. In the description of Satan’s minions we are reminded that the locust eat away what is precious to us, the torment of those not sealed is that their lives are vain and whatever they produce, be it ever so GREAT, is eaten up and taken away from them (Prov 13:21-22; Ecc. 2:26; Isa 60:11; ) – but for the believers, those who have been sealed by God, Whatever they put their hand to for the kingdom of God Prospers (Abraham; Joseph) – NOTHING is ever VAIN! God promises that we will have suffering in this life… But God will not allow OUR suffering to be pointless and lead to despair.
Blast of the Trumpet (Revelation 8:6-13)
With the first four trumpets, in each case, every trumpet blown, including the falling of wormwood/Satan God allows the destruction they bring. Why? Because He is King and He is a good King… His trumpets are not final judgment but they are Mercy in the form of a temporal judgment to lead men to repentance. Like the watchman and his trumpet in Ezekiel 33, they warn the people of impending danger. But they are also a CALL to worship. Especially for us who have escaped the wrath to come and hear with each of their loud sounds the beaconing of the New Day!
Significance in Silence and Supplication (Revelation 8:1-5)
Tribulation and Tabernacle (Revelation 7:13-17)
Like many great soldiers we’ll carry on talking about our victories in Christ with great joy. We will raise our Ebenezers with greater zeal than we do now, and worship Christ and God for the TENT He spread for us, for Immanuel. Like in Isaiah 12 we will say, “Behold, God is my salvation; the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” – We cannot help but tell all the earth of our salvation and give thanks to God … because he has given us the Joy of drawing water from the wells of salvation – of having the Spirit poured so freely on us that we ourselves become streams of living water!
David’s Mighty Men (2 Samuel 23:8-39)
Christ is the champion of His people – there is NO DOUBT… but Christ is also the Author and FINISHER of our faith. We are being conformed to His image … and that means gaining victories and conquering LIKE he conquered. Jesus told His disciples that they would do greater works than HE did! – Isn’t that AMAZING! – and I do not believe he was limiting that to his 12 Apostles…
Future Driving Present (Revelation 7:8-17)
After John heard the number of all the saints he looks and sees what is full of glorious heavenly blessings that contextualizes our faith and motivates our specific obedience. The point is that future glory drives our present kingdom life.
God Concentrating (Revelation 7:1-8)
Every power that God employs is for the salvation of His church – the Bride who the Bridegroom loves. You are the apple of God’s eye and the gates of Hades will not prevail against you because God has given you “the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.” – Jesus has not just secured your salvation but made YOU a Beautiful PART of His work. “I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it,”
Last Words (2 Samuel 23:1-7)
Last words can be great words! Scripture records many last words of Saints… not the least of which are the last words of our Savior and LORD – Why? because we are not running from death – but conquerors of death! – because life only has meaning in proper understanding of our DEATH and the last words of a Saint are likely to bring the sharpest focus on the FACT that the he already died long ago in Christ – and now his every breath is only to Proclaim HIM as LORD and to SERVE others.
End of Idolatry (Revelation 6:12-17)
If we see that – God is holding back the consummation of all things and the coming of His ultimate GLORY with the VINDICATION of all His loved ones, so that TODAY could be the DAY of salvation! There is GREAT Hope! Do you see how the Doctrine of God’s Final Judgment is vital for our life in Christ? We have WORK to do… in spreading the Testimony of Jesus and the word of God – it will undoubtedly make us Martyrs … but also persuasive Evangelists! And as long as it is Today we KNOW… now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. What a dignity Christ has called us too! TO be part of His undoing the curse of Adam in the Garden by – turn your friends from their idolatry! – refuse idolatry!
But Did You Die? (Revelation 6:9-11)
Our death is only a reflection of Christ’s death for us. That is the strength of our conviction and the resource of our Spiritual courage. If it were left to us at all, then we would never die to self – never want Justice, only revenge – and we would not be able to wait with patience for His timing. But Christ really has given us His life and His death. We do LIVE and DIE for and IN Him, because He lived and died for US!!
