Luke’s message to Theophilus is complex and yet straightforward. The challenge for studying Luke is to be moved by its simplicity without destroying its complexity. Ultimately, Luke is a great physician of the soul – writing about the great physician, and his pastoral intent and careful placement of all his tools is evident throughout. But Luke is not only operating on individual hearts with his gospel. Through the history and careful research Luke takes the whole Bride of Christ and her future self as his true patient.
