Charles Spurgeon liked to call certain passages of scripture a miniature gospel because in them contained the bulk of God’s redemptive purpose in Christ. The Book of 1 Samuel has several miniature gospels! The history not only brings out the typological significance of the Davidic kingship – but it presses the divine and human necessity and beauty of the eschatological king.
