Stephen’s Crown (Acts 6:8-7:60)

Tempting as it may be to see Stephen as a great moral example (and he is one), Luke’s main concern in his snapshot of the last day of Stephen’s life is to demonstrate his vital role in the development of the Gentile world mission. Steven’s martyrdom is the instrument of the opening of the flood gate for the gospel! And this is the kind of thing that we should expect from a reigning Jesus – surely he will make even our tragedies triumphs.
