Do you really believe that the Word is powerful? Do you believe as Paul says elsewhere “the Word of God is at work among you!” – this is what Paul drives at in these verses in contrasting two slaveries – the slavery of the flesh that false teaching binds us to – and the slavery of righteousness that gospel preaching binds us to. [And] thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. So let us consider how the gospel preaching binds us to the LORD and breaks us from the flesh!
